Transition
Thank you for choosing Plymstock School; we are delighted to welcome you and your child to our school which is a valued member of the Westcountry Schools Trust family. We are proud of our close-knot community and dedication to excellence. You will find Plymstock to be committed to nurturing each child's potential in a supportive environment.
Many of us will have memories of the transition from primary to secondary school; it is a momentous event and can be both exciting and daunting. Our aim is to ensure your child feels valued, cared for and equipped with the knowledge they need to succeed in life. We aim to instil a lifelong love of learning in our students. Our core values - be kind, work hard and aim high serve as guiding principles in all we do.
Our transition programme is designed to make the journey from primary to secondary as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Striking the balance between supporting your child and fostering their independence is key to a successful start to secondary school.

We look forward to welcoming our new cohort on Thursday 3 July 2025 for our annual transition day.
Year 7 students 2025 will officially begin their journey at Plymstock School on Friday 5 September 2025, alongside our new Year 12 students.
This forms part of our staggered start; this helps our students to settle into their new environment calmly and confidently, without the presence of other year groups.

What is Parent Pay and Class Charts?
As with most primary schools, we are a cashless school, we use the Parent Pay system to pay for items within the school. This is an online system that allows you to pay for school lunches, trips and other items. You will be issued a link to access Parent Pay for your child.
Class Charts is the online system we use to communicate with those at home regarding student’s homework, behaviour, announcements, and timetables. You will be issued your log in details for this in September. There will be a parent log in and a student log in.
What is the role of the tutor?
Each morning, students spend the first half an hour of the day in their tutor groups with their tutor. The tutor will be the person who will learn the most about your child and is the main point of contact for both parents/carers and students. The best way to contact tutors is through email, this information will be provided to you once tutor groups have been allocated.
What if my child has a medical condition?
Parents/carers should have informed the school of any known medical conditions when completing the admission form.
If your child needs to take medication during the school day you will need to complete a consent form for this medicine to be stored and administered by the school. These can either be sent to you, upon request, or you can come into reception to complete the form.
If your child has an ongoing medical condition that requires additional support or medication, we will ask you to assist in completing an Individual Health and Wellbeing Plan (IHWP). A member of our First Aid team will be in contact with those individuals who have been identified as requiring a plan. It is the responsibility of the parent/carer to keep the school updated on any changes to medical conditions.
Is there any work that my child should be doing to prepare?
Supporting your child to continue to read and practice their times tables over the summer, will give them the best start to secondary school.
