Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) at Plymstock School

At Plymstock School, we are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment where every student, regardless of their individual needs, is supported to thrive and succeed. We believe that high-quality teaching is the most important factor in raising educational outcomes for all students, including those with additional needs. Our goal is to promote independence and secure progress, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Our Vision

We believe in a holistic, student-centred approach to education. Our vision is to:

  • Promote a positive, inclusive culture where every student feels valued and supported

  • Encourage self-confidence and independence in students with SEND

  • Provide opportunities for social, emotional, and academic development

  • Foster strong partnerships between families, school staff, and outside agencies

What We Offer

Our SEND provision is designed to support students to access learning within the classroom. A range of support is available and is detailed in our School Information Report below:

School Information Report (SIR)

Most students with additional needs can make progress through the school's inclusive systems and high-quality classroom teaching. However, for a small number of students, bespoke packages of support are provided to meet individual needs, ensuring they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Collaborative Approach

We believe that collaboration is key to student success. Our SEND team works closely with students, parents, and other professionals to ensure that each student’s needs are met. We maintain open lines of communication and encourage active involvement in decision-making processes, including target-setting and review meetings. Students are encouraged to be actively involved in their own learning and development, with an emphasis on self-reflection and setting personal goals.

Transition

We understand the importance of a smooth transition, especially for students with SEND. Parents of students with special educational needs are encouraged to visit the school and meet with the SENDCo to discuss their child's needs and how we can best support them. Additional visits during the transition process are always welcomed. We have strong relationships with our partner primary schools, and our SEND liaison process ensures that essential information is shared to support a smooth transition from Key Stage 2 (KS2) to Key Stage 3 (KS3).
