Exciting Changes to Our School Catering Service!
A Fresh Start for Healthier, Tastier School Meals
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to announce some exciting changes to our school catering service that have been introduced this week. The introduction has been brought forward due to some sudden staffing changes in our Galley Team and we are delighted to be working in close partnership with our cluster school, Coombe Dean under the leadership of our Cluster Catering Manager, Mr Lovell.
This rather sudden change has been navigated with understanding and interest by the vast majority of students and we have appreciated their patience as they have navigated the change this week. We understand that change can be difficult for some and are sharing the menus at the earliest opportunity now that they have been implemented and are ready for implementation over the coming weeks.
What's Changing?
Following feedback from both parents and students in our summer term school surveys, we have spent time reviewing our menus and the food offer for students and staff at the school. Following this process, we have now revamped our menu to ensure every meal served meets the Department for Education School Food Standards and promotes healthier eating habits for our students, which is in their long term health interest.
Our new approach includes:
-
Daily rotating menus featuring fresh, nutritious options that comply with the DfE Good Food Guide.
-
Chef's Daily Special – a different delicious creation every day to keep mealtimes interesting and enjoyable and offer breadth and new experiences for children.
-
Balanced nutrition with plenty of fruit, vegetables, new salad offerings (from a garden salad to teriyaki salmon salad) and wholegrains.
-
A reduction in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats without compromising on taste.
-
Exciting variety to cater to different tastes and dietary requirements.
Why We're Making These Changes
Your voices were clear and the opinions shared matter to us! The summer surveys highlighted concerns about nutritional value and menu variety, and we've listened. These improvements represent our commitment to:
-
Supporting your child's health, wellbeing, and concentration throughout the school day
-
Meeting national nutritional standards
-
Making mealtimes something students genuinely look forward to
-
Working in partnership with families to promote healthy lifestyles
What Happens Next?
As mentioned above, due to significant and unforeseen circumstances, we have brought forward the implementation of these exciting changes, and the new menu is now in place. While we appreciate there may be a few teething problems as we settle into our new routine, we are confident that these changes will support students' learning and provide new culinary delights for everyone to enjoy.
Our catering team is incredibly excited to share these improvements with your children. We'll be publishing the weekly menu on our website and school communications platforms so you can see exactly what's being served.
We believe that good food is at the heart of a good education, and we're committed to providing meals that fuel both body and mind.
Thank you for your feedback – together we're making positive changes for our school community.
For any questions regarding the new menu, dietary requirements, or allergen information, please contact the school's catering manager.
