Plymstock is a suburb of Plymouth. Plymstock lies approximately 3 miles to the east of the City of Plymouth, which is the main business and commercial centre in the West Devon area. Plymstock is approximately 2 miles from the sea and is well situated for the South Hams, South East Cornwall and Dartmoor National Park. It is linked by the A38 to the national motorway system at Exeter. A regular inter-city rail service operates from the modern university city and the seaport of Plymouth. A daily sea ferry service links the city with the Brittany area of France and Northern Spain. Airlines operate from Plymouth and Exeter.
There are approximately 1600 students on roll with 240 in the Sixth Form. The school has ten forms of entry and for the past four years we have been substantially the most oversubscribed school in Devon.
Plymstock School is a Specialist Sports College and as such has a reputation for excellence and opportunity and positively promotes the belief that all students are expected to be successful, no matter their area of expertise.
The school has an excellent relationship with partner primary schools both in relation to the transfer of pupils into Year 7 and through the Academic Council which provides a focus for pastoral and academic links.
We are pleased to receive an excellent Ofsted report (March 2006) which said "Plymstock School is a good school with outstanding features!". The school has recently been recognised for its development of staff and with its relationship with the community by Investors in People and the award of a Chartermark for excellence. "Overall the school provides very good value for money". The students hold many prestigious awards including overall National winners of the Young Engineer for Britain and the TES Environment Award. We have an extensive extra curricular sporting activities programme and our school teams together with G & T individuals compete at local, regional and national level.
