Charter Mark Award

Charter Mark is the Government’s national standard for excellence in customer service. It is a registered certification mark, which is owned by the Cabinet Office. The Charter Mark Team, part of the Prime Minister’s Office for Public Services Reform determines the policy and administration of the scheme.

Plymstock School has overcome a shrinking budget to achieve record exam results, a staff development award and the Charter Mark in a few months. Just how closely the school was examined is underlined by the 52 separate items of information that was provided.

We were nominated by a parent in early 1997 and made an entry which we based upon the quality of our educational provision for boys and girls who come to the school.

On the 5th December 1997, a school representative, travelled to the Queen Elizabeth II Conference room in Westminister to collect the award. The award was presented, not for the already excellent facilities, but for the quality of teaching and learning available at the school.

The results of the assessment were commendable, with praise especially given to the office staff for their ability to handle the ammount of telephone calls and personal callers each day. Other comments included the high standard of support that was given by the parents to the teaching methods used at Plymstock.

Although this is an outstanding award, we must not think that we have reached perfection but continue to strive for excellence in every academic area.

We must remember that although the award stays within the school, it belongs to every pupil and staff member. Plymstock School belongs to the students, teachers and parents and through you, our accolade of "excellence" is assured. This achievement will appear on the students' references and will add to the already impressive reputation of the school.

We have reapplied for the award in Sept 2004 and our CharterMark was re-confirmed in October 2004
