BE Kind

BE Kind Support Group – Supporting Young Carers and Bereaved Students

At our school, we understand that some of our students face challenges outside the classroom that can significantly impact their wellbeing and ability to thrive at school. That’s why we are proud to offer our BE Kind support group – a dedicated space to support Young Carers and Bereaved Students.

BE Kind is led by Mrs Bartlett, who provides support to students navigating these experiences. Whether a student needs some support, or a listening ear, there is help available. As part of this, Mrs Bartlett hosts a Young Carers’ drop-in session every Thursday during Break 2 in the Library Classroom, offering regular, accessible support in a safe and welcoming environment.

What is a Young Carer?

A Young Carer is someone under 18 who helps to look after a family member with a physical or mental illness, disability, or substance misuse issue. This care can include cooking, cleaning, helping with medication, translating for a parent, or providing emotional support. These responsibilities can sometimes be overwhelming, especially when balanced alongside school life.

Being a Young Carer can affect a student’s attendance, concentration, friendships, and mental health. Our BE Kind group ensures these students know they are not alone and helps them manage both their caring responsibilities and their education.

Supporting Bereaved Students

We also provide vital support to students who are experiencing bereavement. Losing a loved one at any age is incredibly hard, but for a young person, it can be especially confusing and distressing. Grief can affect behaviour, academic performance, confidence, and social relationships.

Through BE Kind, bereaved students can talk about their feelings in a caring, confidential setting. We provide resources, guidance, and emotional reassurance, while also working closely with families to offer support.

If you feel your child might benefit from joining the BE Kind group – whether they are a Young Carer or have experienced a bereavement – please do not hesitate to get in touch. We are here to help and support every step of the way.

In addition to emotional support, BE Kind also offers occasional treats and outings for the students involved, giving them time to relax, build friendships, and make positive memories. These opportunities are only possible thanks to the generosity of our community.

We are extremely grateful to the businesses that have supported our BE Kind group so far, including:

  • Super Tramp Plymouth
  • The National Trust – Saltram
  • Plymouth Life Centre

Donations welcome

If you would like to make a donation to support our BE Kind group – whether to help fund activities, resources, or refreshments – you can do so via ParentPay. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference to the lives of our students.

Thank you for helping us create a school community where kindness, empathy, and support truly matter.
